Wheat germ oil is extracted from the germ of the wheat kernel, which constitutes only 2.5% by weight of the kernel. Wheat germ oil is particularly high in octacosanol (a long-chain, 28-carbon saturated primary alcohol) which is found in various vegetable waxes that we still use today for both therapeutic and cosmetic use.
Octacosanol has been studied as an exercise and physical performance enhancer. It is used by athletes and people with intense daily work.
