H Betula pubescens, known as downy or white birch, is a deciduous tree of northern and central Europe, with characteristic white bark and soft, downy young branches. It prefers moist, acidic soils and is found mainly in cold regions. In contrast to the related Betula pendula, is more resistant to moisture and is more commonly found in wetlands and forested areas. Its use in phytotherapy and gemmotherapy is long-standing, mainly for its detoxifying and diuretic properties.

- Not to be used by individuals with severe renal failure.
