History of White Musk

Musk was a name given to a strongly scented substance obtained from a gland of the musk deer. The substance has been widely used as a fragrance fixative since antiquity and is one of the most expensive animal products in the world. The name comes from the Late Greek μόσχος “moskhos” and from the Sanskrit muṣka.
White musk essential oil was originally extracted from the glands of the Himalayan musk deer. The musk deer belongs to the family Moschidae and lives in Tibet, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and other Eastern countries. The musk pod is a preputial gland located in a sac beneath the skin of the male deer’s abdomen. It is obtained by killing the male deer using traps set in the wild. After drying, the reddish-brown paste inside the musk pod
turns into a black granular material called “musk grain”, which is then tinctured in alcohol.
However, since 1979, the original production method, which required killing the male deer, has been banned to prevent ecological imbalance. The musk essential oil used today is produced in 2 ways:
1. Plant-based, consisting of other essential oils that mimic the smell of musk and come from musk flowers (Mimulus moschatus) of western North America, muskwood (Olearia argophylla) of Australia and musk seeds (Abelmoschus moschatus) from India.
2. Since obtaining musk from deer requires killing an endangered animal, almost all musk fragrance produced today in perfumery is synthetic, known as “white musk”.

Instructions for use

- Valentine’s Sensual Oil
Mix jojoba oil with vanilla, ylang ylang, cinnamon and white musk essential oils.
Apply all over the body with circular movements to bring a sense of well-being to the body. **Contact our pharmacist for the preparation of the blend
- Make soaps, candles and aromatic room sticks.
- Add a few drops to your evening relaxing bath.
- For deep sleep. Put 1–2 drops on a cotton ball and leave it near the pillow. The calming action of the white musk aroma will bring a restful and deep sleep.
- Yoga – Meditation. Turn your yoga and meditation practice into an inner experience by adding a few drops of white musk essential oil to the ceramic oil burner.
- Blends well with cinnamon, sandalwood, myrrh, ylang ylang, vanilla, clove.

Useful tips

- The use of essential oils should be avoided during pregnancy, breastfeeding and by young children.
- Avoid direct contact with skin, eyes and mouth.
- Always use essential oils dissolved in a base oil or other catalyst.
