AGNUS CASTUS CHARACTERISTICS
The plant Vitex agnus castus, also known as chaste tree, belongs to the Verbenaceae family. This shrub originates from central Asia and the wider Mediterranean region. In Greece it can be found in the countryside near rivers and coastal areas. It is a deciduous shrub with fragrant gray-green, oblong leaves that are the ideal decoration for any garden. At the highest point of the plant, from the beginning of summer to the end of November, small fragrant purple and white flowers bloom. It grows in an upright and spherical shape, can grow for 10 years and reach 3 to 5 meters in height and length. For the good development of the plant, it is necessary to plant it in a sunny position and be protected from severe frosts.
HISTORY
The willow is considered one of the oldest plants in Greece. It is mentioned in mythology and has been exploited since ancient times for its many uses and was considered valuable due to its therapeutic properties. Plato wrote about the aphrodisiac properties of the plant and there are references to its use for the treatment of hormonal disorders. During the Renaissance, the willow was administered to treat epilepsy and problems of the liver and spleen. In the 16th century, the fruits of the plant were consumed for their ability to stimulate menstruation and as a treatment for infertility.
Homer wrote that Odysseus, in order to save his companions, tied them under the sheep of the cyclops Polyphemus with willow branches. Also, in mythology, it is said that Hera was born under a willow bush.
Finally, the branches of the bush were used, thanks to their flexibility, as raw material in the construction of baskets.
PROPERTIES – BENEFITS
- Wickerweed is beneficial mainly for the female hormonal system. It is recommended for the relief of symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), breast pain, swelling, cramps and migraines. It is also the appropriate herb for menopause, because it treats hot flashes, psychological changes, irritability and mastalgia.
- Wickerweed acts on the pituitary gland. It stimulates the production of luteinizing hormone, which in women, helps balance progesterone and prolactin levels to support regular menstrual cycles and healthy ovulation. In men, luteinizing hormone stimulates the testicles to release testosterone, which is essential for sperm production. Its action on the pituitary gland and luteinizing hormone can be a significant aid in a more fertile environment for conception in both men and women.
- In addition, it has been shown that willow bark helps with polycystic ovary syndrome, amenorrhea, arousal and generally improves women's sexual experience. Research has shown that it binds to dopamine receptors, thus protecting against chronic stress.
CHINESE MEDICINE
According to Chinese Medicine, the Vitex agnus castus plant is known as Man Jing Zi and releases its properties in the upper body. In this way, it cleanses and moves the stagnant fire that may be the cause of the above symptoms. Thanks to this property, it helps to treat depression and headaches that come from intense anxiety.

Alcohol (in variable proportions 50% - 90%), osier fruits.
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF AGNUS CASTUS
1,8-cineole 11.6–16.13%, α-thujene 9.3%, phyllocladene, 8.2%, α-pinene 7.9%, essential oils, 1,8-cineole, (Z)-β-farnesene, trans-caryophyllene 19.17%, savinene 18.05%, α-terpinyl acetate 6.91%, dihydroselarene, flavonoids such as orientin, kaempferol, penduletin, luteolin, artemetin, vitexin, casticin, iridoids such as agnuside, agnusoside, agnucastosid A/B, aucubin and other compounds.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
- 30 drops diluted in 1/2 glass of water.
- 1-2 times a day for a specific period of time or as directed by the doctor and pharmacist.
- 20' before eating
