Chemical Composition of Tincture
The tincture contains:
- Asarone (β-asarone and α-asarone)

Pharmacological Actions and Properties
1. Digestive tonic
- Promotes the secretion of gastric juices and improves indigestion.
- Relieves bloating, gas and heartburn.
2. Antispasmodic and antiemetic
- Reduces nausea and stomach cramps.
3. Sedative and anxiolytic
- It is used to treat anxiety and mild insomnia.
4. Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory
- It is used externally in washes to clean wounds or irritations.
5. Nervous system tonic
- Stimulates mental function and enhances concentration in small doses.
Indications for Use:
- Indigestion, heartburn and flatulence
- Nausea and vomiting
- Anxiety and insomnia
- Digestive spastic syndromes (e.g. irritable bowel syndrome)
- External use for skin irritations and wounds
Dosage:
10-20 drops in water or decoction, 1-2 times a day, before meals.
Precautions and Side Effects:
- Potential toxicity: Asarone may cause toxic reactions in large doses or long-term use.
- Contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding and children.
- Neurotoxic effects: Large doses may cause headache, drowsiness or nervous system disorders.
- Interactions: Do not take with sedatives or alcohol.
