CARDAMOM CHARACTERISTICS - ELETTARIA CARDAMOMUM
Elettaria cardamomum, also called green cardamom, is native to India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Vietnam and other Asian countries. This plant is a member of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae) and can grow to about 2-4 meters in height and 1.5-3 meters in width. The plant flowers in April-May and the flower completes its cycle when the fruit is fully developed.
Cardamom is cultivated for its green fruit, which internally contains a total of 10-20 black seeds shaped like a turtle shell!! These seeds are often used as a spice for their sweet taste and wonderful aroma, while the fresh leaves are consumed as a seasoning in salads.
HISTORY
Cardamom has been cultivated for over 1,000 years and has been loved by many peoples of humanity. In ancient times, the people of India, in addition to culinary use, used it to treat melancholy and improve digestion.
At the same time, they consumed the seeds in cooking and coffee. To this day, it is an important ingredient in Indian cuisine and is what gives the characteristic flavor and aroma to pastries, many dishes and drinks such as masala chai.
Later, the seed traveled from India to ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece where it was used for its medicinal properties and as a flavoring in the kitchen.
Today, cardamom is valued by the pharmacopoeia, as it is an important ingredient in herbal recipes, tinctures and nutritional supplements aimed at treating mild depression, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome and menopausal hot flashes.
PROPERTIES – BENEFITS
- Antidepressant. The aromatic compounds it contains increase serotonin and make it one of the most powerful antidepressant spices. It is often combined with other herbs and spices to enhance good psychology and positive thinking.
- Antispasmodic. The antispasmodic properties of cardamom make the consumption of the tincture ideal in the case of spastic colitis and offers substantial relief in abdominal pain associated with irritable bowel syndrome. Also suitable for persistent hiccups.
- Detoxifying. Strengthens the function of the spleen and helps in the elimination of
waste products from the body.
AYURVEDA
Cardamom is used in Ayurvedic medicine to strengthen the digestive fire, eliminate undigested food, and facilitate the movement of air (vata) in the body while at the same time reducing unnecessary fire in the blood. The properties that Ayurveda attributes to cardamom are:
Antidepressant, minimizes menopausal hot flashes and stabilizes positive psychology, antacid, as it nourishes the mucous membrane.
RECOMMENDATION
Alcohol (in variable proportions 50% - 90%), cardamom fruit. Drinkable, natural extract from mother tincture (D1).
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF ELETARRIACARDMAMOMUM
1.8 – cineole, α terpinyl acetate, flavonoids, essential oils, terpenoids, myrcene, limonene, nerolidol, carotenoids, aromatic compounds.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
- 30 drops diluted in 1/2 glass of water.
- 1 time per day for a specific period of time according to the instructions of the doctor or pharmacist.
