Characteristics of the orange tree
The orange - Citrus sinensis, is an evergreen tree and belongs to the category of
citrus fruits. The Citrus genus includes a wide variety of evergreen trees.
The orange tree consists of dark green, smooth, broad leaves, and in the spring it begins to bloom with small sweet white flowers that attract many bees. There are more than 600 varieties of oranges, the most famous being Valencia with an increased amount of juice and the sweet Merlin variety.
The tree can reach up to 10 meters in height and its lifespan is from 50 to 150 years. After the orange trees start producing fruit they take 7-8 months to ripen. Orange is one of the richest sources of vitamin C and fiber, that's why its juice is part of the morning meal, as it is consumed by young and old,
The orange tree is intensively cultivated in most parts of the world. In our country, it occupies a large part of agricultural production and organic farming.
The essential oil of orange is extracted from different parts of the tree and the fruits by the method of cold pressing. Essential oil properties include stress reduction, antimicrobial, pain relief and rejuvenating properties.

History of the orange
The orange tree comes from Asia. More specifically, they were growing in the wild initially in southeastern China at least since 340 BC. where it is considered a symbol of good luck and prosperity. In India it has been established that oranges have been cultivated for at least 7,000 years. It is believed that the ancestor of the orange was the bitter orange and over time it was domesticated in some areas with the final result of today's
orange.
It arrived in Europe during the 10th century, where the Moors introduced the orange to Spain. Thanks to the country's warm Mediterranean climate, today Spain is responsible for 80% of European orange production.
In the beginning the orange was an aristocratic fruit, as only wealthy families could buy and maintain orange trees. King Francis I called the orange "the king of fruits" and was a known admirer of France's first orange tree.
With the continued spread of the orange, its benefits in combating scurvy, which was a frequent ailment of sailors, became known.
