Characteristics of the Jojoba plant

The jojoba plant, or Simmondsia chinensis, is a woody and evergreen shrub that grows in America, specifically in the southwestern part of the United States. It belongs to the Simmondsiaceae family. It prefers well-drained soils and is tolerant of desert conditions.
The gray-green color of the leaves and the shape of the fruit are reminiscent of the Mediterranean olive. The height of the bush can reach up to 1.5 - 2 meters. Many animals find shelter under its rich foliage, while rodents and birds feed on its fruits.
The plant blooms from March to May. The fruit resulting from the maturation of the flowering contains about 50% oil. This oil shows high resistance to oxidation and stability at high temperatures.

History
There are earlier accounts of the use of the oily fruit by Native Americans, who made a type of beeswax to treat burns, wounds and treat other skin conditions. In later years, in 1770, the systematic cultivation of the plant began.
Thanks to the valuable properties of the fruit and the economic value that its exploitation brings today, in recent decades the cultivation of the jojoba tree has spread to other countries such as Egypt, Israel, India, Australia.
It is considered an essential ingredient in cosmetic and therapeutic products for the face and hair.
