Το Prunus laurocerasus, γνωστή και ως δαφνοκερασιά, είναι αειθαλής θάμνος της οικογένειας Rosaceae, με γυαλιστερά, λογχοειδή φύλλα και μικρά λευκά άνθη. Στη βοτανοθεραπεία χρησιμοποιούνται κυρίως τα φύλλα, τα οποία περιέχουν γλυκοσίδες που απελευθερώνουν κυανιούχα παράγωγα.

- Amygdalin (cyanogenic glycoside) - It is the basic chemical compound that can release cyanide when it breaks down.
- Phenols (e.g., caffeic acid, ferulic acid) - Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Alkaloids (e.g., prunasin) - They contribute to the calming effect of the tincture.
- Tannins - They enhance the astringent and antiseptic properties of the plant.
